The Fry Department: Crispy Fries, Generous Sandwiches & Delicious Burgers in Woodlawn

The Fry Department delivers a satisfying street food experience with standout value and generous portions. Their fries are excellent, crispy, well-seasoned, and just a hair below the gold standard set by Wes’ Chips. That’s high praise, considering how tough the competition is in the fry game. The smash burger was solid: juicy with a nice crust, though the patty could have used a touch more seasoning to really pop. That said, this is a common shortcoming even at burger joints, so it’s more a fine-tuning than a flaw. The Clucker chicken sandwich is a fun, no-frills option, made with a couple of crispy chicken fingers and nicely assembled. But the real surprise was the subs: unexpectedly massive and served on what felt like two-thirds of a baguette. If you’re hungry or sharing, this is the way to go. Overall the Fry Department is a welcomed addition to the community and a great spot to grab lunch on your way to the beach. The Fry Department is the newest chiptruck to take up residence in the parking lot of the gas station in Woodlawn. Run by two younger people with a passion for good food it seems. I went on their opening day and got to try out their poutine and one of their sandwiches, the DMG Sandwich. The sandwich is quite large, I honestly could have just ordered it alone and been full. The sandwich is well proportioned with quality meats and toppings. Everything was fresh, and absolutely delicious. They've knocked it out of the park. As someone who has visited around 30 sandwich shops/delis in the city of Ottawa, this is easily in the top 10. The poutine was good as well, though not ground breaking. The fries were crisp and they didn't cheap out on the amount of cheese curds. Altogether a great addition to the area, and I am sure that as time goes on the owners will become more familiar with what it is like to run a food truck, streamlining the process of everything. Today was our first experience at The Fry Department and we're already planning to go back in the next few days. It's 20 minutes away from us, but we were so happy with the food and service that we're definitely going back. The food others were eating looked amazing and fresh. We ordered a large fry. The value was amazing. For the amount of fries we got, this would have been much more expensive at most other food trucks. The fries were perfectly crispy. I've only been to a few food trucks over the years that nailed it like this. Keep up the good work!!

Tried The Fry Department for the first time and it is so freaking good! Got a smash burger with all the fixings with a small fry, portion sizes are generous, fries are perfectly crispy and the burger was outstanding. Delicious! Thrilled to have a place this good in Woodlawn

Run by a young local couple from Constance Bay who have had a huge passion for food long before they opened this place. From the homemade sauces to the freshest ingredients, you can tell they put their everything into this place. They love serving the community and both Abby and Joey always have a smile on their face. You can literally taste the love they put into their food I swear. Super cheap $5 meal options and tons of customization. They use the original DMG sandwich recipe passed down from the owners to Abby herself, and it tastes like nostalgia in a bun. Their east coast donair is true to its name and the mayday poutine is to die for It’s hard to beat $6 smash burgers (but you can if you wanna double it, add cheese, bacon, a second patty, special sauces… there’s endless possibilities that keep me coming back over and over again.

I had arranged for the Fry Department to prepare lunch for 9 people last Tuesday July 8th and it was awesome; Abby even came in a bit earlier that day to make sure everything was ready. We ordered every kind of sandwich they had & no one was disappointed! A real bonus was having all the items identified & extra dipping sauce for us to try out! Thanks for the great service!

An excellent food truck whose owners are passionate about their food. We tried more or less everything tonight and everything was superb; fries, poutine, smash and chicken burgers, pogo, donair and onion rings, now we just need to try the sandwiches. More than anything is how joyous the staff are, last month while making my own poutine they generously gave me a bag of cheese curds, now I just need to find them some beef tallow.
